\"2013_Volkswagen_Golf_TDI\"<\/a>VW Golf TDI Diesel Review<\/h2>\n

For those of you who do not know, TDI stands for “Turbocharged Direct Injection<\/em>” although given this awesome engine happens to be a diesel<\/strong> maybe “Turbo Diesel Injection” would be more appropriate.\u00a0 Diesel engines of old bring up memories of black smoke and very noisy clackety clack sounds coming from the engine bay, but let me tell you, today’s diesel engines are quiet and cleaner then many gasoline engines, and this one is no exception.<\/p>\n

\"2013_volkswagen_golf_interior_300\"<\/a>I was extremely impressed with how the 2013 VW Golf TDI looked both inside and out.\u00a0 The exterior has a sharp sporty look and the interior is very clean, upscale and Audi like with large crystal clear analog gauges for the speedometer and tachometer.\u00a0 The seats are very supportive are well bolstered (maybe too much so for larger folks) and the ride is firm, fun and solid, yet very comfortable.\"2013_volkswagen_golf_TDI_Engine\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The real magic begins with the\u00a0 engine which is quiet, has plenty of low end torque and comes with an EPA rated 42 MPG!\u00a0 Many folks are claiming to get 50 MPG which is better then what I am getting on my 2009 BMW K1300GT motorcycle.<\/p>\n

I test drove the four door version with the automatic transmission which shifted smoothly and quickly, however I look forward to checking out the 6 speed manual transmission which is my preferred method of getting to from point A to point B.<\/p>\n

Given the environmental impact of building the batteries for Hybrid cars and issues with disposing of these toxic bombs, I really do not see the advantage of buying a hybrid over this diesel engine.\u00a0 Diesel engines are known to run FOREVER and with modifications can even run on Bio-Diesel fuel.<\/p>\n

I have the bug for a small, hot hatchback with good gas mileage and I have been considering the idea of selling my beloved 2009 BMW 335i Sedan with 6 speed manual transmission for the very impressive new Ford Focus Hatchback<\/a>, however I think I just found my new love.\u00a0 Of course as a BMW Enthusiast (AKA… BMW Nut) my real preference is the new BMW 1 Series four door hatchback, however the folks at BMW appear to be too busy making making gigantic, expensive driving machines for the US market and have forgotten their roots and what made the brand so special….which was small, sporty, extremely fun cars to drive. (Plea to bring the BMW 1 Series 5 Door Hatchback to the US<\/a>)<\/p>\n
